The 33rd Ljubljana International Film Festival Liffe maintains contact with viewers across Slovenia through video on demand

9. 11. 2022

After restrictions related to COVID-19 measures meant that a limited number of people could see films in cinemas, this year’s 33rd Ljubljana International Film Festival Liffe, which is taking place from 9 to 20 November, will be once again available at film theatres in Ljubljana, Maribor, Novo Mesto and Celje.

However, as film fans have embraced the option of watching films from the comfort of their home during this period, Liffe will be once again making it possible to watch 13 select films through video on demand and on the NEO TV platform from Telekom Slovenije, which has been the festival’s main sponsor for 27 years now.

Simon Popek, the programme director of Liffe, emphasised that “in 2020 Liffe, like many other festivals and culture events around the world, was forced by pandemic events to temporarily move online. However, in this forced and somewhat depressing situation we still managed to find a positive development – films fans from all corners of Slovenia welcomed the decision to partially move our programme to online platforms, as many of them were able to watch the festival’s films for the first time, as for the first 30 years they had only been available in Ljubljana and select cities across the country, for example Maribor, Celje and Novo Mesto. After two years of limitations Liffe is once again returning under somewhat normal conditions, with international guests and live events. The festival will still not be at full capacity, even though all the films will be in the cinemas; however, because of certain limitations we once again chose to have a part of our programme available through video on demand. With this move Liffe retains its connection with viewers from across Slovenia, who would otherwise miss out.”

Telekom Slovenije has made it possible for its subscribers to watch 13 films from this year’s festival in its video store, and they can be found in the LIFFE 2022 category. Subscribers who use the NEO platform can also find the film they want by simply saying “LIFFE 2022” into their remote. The video store also has films from past LIFFe’s and other festivals in the LIFFE category. This is another way Telekom Slovenije and Liffe are continuing their long partnership.

In the Perspectives competitive section, open to young directors, Telekom Slovenije is traditionally conferring the Kingfisher award.

Telekom Slovenije’s subscribers can watch the following films from this year’s Liffe in the video store: Full Time (director: Eric Gravel; France, 2021) Peter von Kant (director: François Ozon; France, 2021), Crimes of the Future (director: David Cronenberg; Canada, UK, Greece, France, 2022), Both Sides of the Blade (director: Claire Denis; France, 2021), Rimini (director: Ulrich Seidl; Austria, France, Germany, 2022), The Passengers of the Night (director: Mikhaël Hers; France, 2022) Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom (director: Pawo Choyning Dorji; Buthan, China, 2019), The Crusade (director: Louis Garrel; France, 2021), The Night of the 12th (director: Dominik Moll; France, Belgium, 2022), Hive (director: Blerta Basholli; Kosovo, Switzerland, North Macedonia, Albania, 2021), Our Home (director: Alejandro Loayza Grisi; Bolivia, Uruguay, France, 2022), Metronom (director: Alexandru Belc; Romania, France, 2022) and Granny's Sexual Life (director: Urška Djukić, Émilie Pigeard; Slovenia, France, 2021).

Films can be watched for the duration of the festival, and are also available through the website www.liffe.si. The price of each individual film is EUR 9, while films from past Liffes and other festivals are available for between EUR 1.79 and EUR 4. The price for watching a film in Telekom Slovenije’s video store will be charged on users’ monthly communication services invoices.
